Frequently Asked Questions about Studying English at London College DublinWhen can I enrol?
You can enrol any time. Classes start every Monday.
How will you know my level?
On your first day we will give you a placement test which will indicate your level. We will place you in the appropriate class
Is there a minimum study period?
No. You can study for any period, from 1 week to 1 year. After that you will need to extend your course. We recommend you study for at least 2 weeks, especially if you are new to Ireland. Non- EEU students must follow a recognised examination course and sit a recognised external examination e.g TIE, ETAPP, IELTS etc
How many hours per week is the course?
Full time courses run for 15 hours per week, which is the minimum allowance for students on a student visa. Part time courses are 6 or 9 hours per week.
Do I have to attend all my classes?
We expect you to attend all your classes. You must obtain at least 85% attendance to receive your certificate and/or visa extension.
How many students will be in my class?
The average class size is 6 to 10 students.
What time are the classes?
Our morning classes run from 9.00am - 12.15pm and our afternoon classes run from 1:15pm to 4:15pm.
Do you have computers with internet access for students?
We have two computer labs - one for class use and study with a teacher and the other for personal use by students. You can use the internet on these computers.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes, you will receive a certificate from London College Dublin at the end of your programme.
Can I work while I am a student at London College Dublin?
You are entitled to work up to 20 hours per week when while you are studying and up to 40 hours per week when you are on holiday.
Can I stay with a host family?
Yes. We have homestay families for our students to stay with. The cost is ?165.00 per week (this rate goes up in the summertime). If you intend to stay in Dublin for a long time, we recommend you stay for a minimum of 4 weeks while you are looking for your own accommodation.
Where is the school?
We are situated in scenic Merrion Square, the cultural heartland of central Dublin. We are beside the main museums, art galleries, parliament buildings, etc., and within walking distance of Dublin's famous Temple Bar and the shopping area of Grafton Street. We are also convenient to all transport links.
Are you a recognised school?
London College Dublin is recognised by the Department of Education. We are also a member of MEI Relsa. |
